In this tutorial we will show you how to disassemble your classic Xbox console in order to to repair works or to install a modchip like the Aladdin XT. To disassemble the classic Xbox corrlectly you will need special Tools which can be purchased directly from us.
- #15 Torx screwdriver
- #10 Torx screwdriver
- (Optional) Rubber cement (used for gluing rubber pads)
- (Optional) a small jar (to hold removed screws)
NOTE: Having the right tool for the right job will make all the difference between a pleasant experience vs. a nightmare!!!
Before we begin
Make sure you are grounded before you begin disassembling your XBOX either by a grounding strap or by touching something metal. Make sure that you are working on a non-conductive surface (i.e. wood, glass…etc.). Remove the rubber pads as shown below in figure #1. Before disassembling your XBOX console, you first need to break the factory XBOX seal. You do this by using a #1 slotted screwdriver or knife that cover two screws as shown below in figure #2. NOTE: you can just lift the rubber pad enough to remove the screw below it if you do not have rubber cement to glue them on back later!!!

Remove the six case screws using your #15 Torx screwdriver as shown below in figure #2.
NOTE: Once the Xbox seal is broken, you void any warranties guaranteed by Microsoft!!!
Turn over your XBOX console and gently pry the cover by lifting upward as shown below in figure #3.
Now remove the three drive screws using your #10 Torx screwdriver. NOTE: the two DVD drive screws are located inside the cylinder shaft on either side of the drive.
Now remove the IDE drive ribbon cable as shown below in figure #5. NOTE: do not pull on the ribbon cable as you may damage it; instead, grab the connector at the base of the ribbon and pull!!!
Next gently pull the power connector outward as shown below. NOTE: do not pull on the power cable wires as you may damage it; instead, grab the connector at the base of the wires and pull. You can use a flat head screwdriver to help pry it out as well!!!
Now remove both the IDE drive ribbon cable and the DVD drive power cord. NOTE: use the same precautions as prescribed earlier when removing these cords!!!
Gently lift the hard drive out of the console as shown below in figure #8.
Now remove the DVD drive out of the console as shown below.
Remove the IDE ribbon and the DVD drive power cable from the motherboard connectors.
Next, gently lift the motherboard power connector as shown below while pinching the locking tab simultaneously. NOTE: on older models, to make this task easier, try using a small flat head screwdriver to gently pry on the locking tab while you pull on the connector!!!
Now remove the two USB and the power connectors as shown below in figure #12. NOTE: always pull by the connector and not by its wires!!!
Remove the 11-motherboard screws using your #10 Torx screwdriver.
Don’t forget to remove the fan power cord as shown below in figure #14.
Finally, remove the motherboard by gently lifting it upward towards the front of the console as shown below in figure #15.
Congratulations, you have completely disassembled your XBOX, you are now ready to install your mod-chip. Simply repeat these instructions in reverse to reassemble your XBOX console!!!
